June 16, 2016: Craig Parton spoke on the legal complexities arising from the recent implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (“SGMA”). The talk was addressed to a full room of members and guests of the Association of Water Agencies of Ventura County. Mr. Parton discussed SGMA’s “unintended consequences” for water right holders and the interplay of the SGMA legislation with court-directed processes found in more traditional groundwater adjudications. Mr. Parton has had direct involvement as trial counsel in two groundwater adjudications as well as post-judgment proceedings in other adjudications.
