This year’s conference features a “State of the Bar” address by David J. Pasternak, President of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association and a keynote address on the “State of Immigration Law and Efforts to Reform and Enforce It.” Following the keynote address, there will be a debate between Jennifer Koh, Western State College of Law Professor, and Ric Oberlink, Former Executive Director of Californians for Population Stabilization. All proceeds from the Bench & Bar Conference directly benefit the Santa Barbara County Bar Association (“SBCBA”). SBCBA is a century old nonprofit organization that administers many programs and activities to benefit attorneys and the community; it has a membership of approximately 600 attorneys, judges, legal administrators, paralegals, law students and members of various other professions. The Mission of the SBCBA is to preserve the integrity of the legal profession and respect for the law, to advance the professional growth and education of its members, to encourage civility and collegiality among its members, to promote equal access to justice, and to protect the independence of the legal profession and the judiciary.
